Below is a video tutorial explaining how to find and embed a Google gadget in to a multi-content resource.
There are a multitude of these gadgets – ones that might prove more useful include a countdown to a particular date, such as an exam; a periodic table that could be included in a science course; the current sky at night that could help identify stars; french word-of-the-day that might support students developing their vocabulary; and earthquake watch which would support a geography unit on earthquakes.
All the gadgets for Google can be found in a directory of gadgets. There are many other sources of gadgets, or widgets as they are referred to outside of Goggle. A useful place to find out more about widgets and start exploring might be Wikipedia.

Hi Paul, it seems I am having more success at using Google gadgets in my blogger account and on the school website i have developed than in Wordpress, which I am using with the students. I don’t know if you can help. I want to embed a quikmap, in a page. The sidebar text widgets are happy to handle this, but not the text or code editors, which strip out the code when saved. Am I missing a trick? Can you help? Thanks in advance for any clues you may be able to offer.

Simon, thank you for the comment. I enjoy reading your blog – I’ve added Ikea Man as a learning style. Unfortunately I can’t help you on the issue of embedding Quikmaps in blogposts in Wordpress. My knowledge of html and associated stuff is pretty limited – most of the embedding I use work through luck not judgement. I note that the Quikmap embed uses iframes – I presume that since they’re not working Wordpress doesn’t support these.
MyMapsPlus has worked in my Wordpress account. I created the map in Google Maps and copied the KML link in to MyMapsPlus. What I’ve just said about iframes can’t be correct as I note the code for MyMapsPlus uses iframes.
Sorry to be of no help.
Quikmaps and many Google Gadgets work with Studywiz because the platform permits iframes and javascript. With the latest version of Studywiz these aren’t permitted as standard due to increased security, but can be requested to be permitted.

Thanks for your kind words, I thought I was the only one who went by the seat of the pants approach to html in blogs, maybe there are more IKEA men out there than folk realise, glad to see I am not alone. Thanks for your help, look forward to hearing from you. I see you are twittering something else that is new to me, will add you to my list if you don’t mind.
